My college introduced me to this opportunity, and as soon as I heard about the award, I knew I wanted to apply. Just being recognised by a prestigious partner like Rolls-Royce could significantly strengthen my future applications. Some of the main reasons I applied was, the chance to secure a potential apprenticeship and the chance to network and develop my employability skills.
The application process was quite extensive. I had to provide details about my college and answer seven questions from Rolls-Royce. This was the chance to sell myself to show what I’ve achieved, explain my interests, and describe how my experiences have helped me grow. Whether it was working in a team to reach a common goal or pushing myself to become more confident, I focused on how each experience contributed to my personal and professional development. After submitting the application, I was delighted to be invited to the final stage at the Rolls-Royce Learning and Development Centre. On the day, I took part in a tour of the onsite facilities, an interview, a technical presentation, and a technical exercise. Despite sounding intimidating, the day was actually quite relaxed, and I felt much more at ease once I arrived.
The ceremony was a truly memorable experience—definitely the most formal event I’ve ever attended! I could tell how fancy it was when I saw multiple forks, knives, and spoons laid out at the table. It was a special evening, and I felt proud to be part of it. I also got a Rolls-Royce Bag and gifts. I got the chance to learn about employees at Rolls Royce also. Having a family member there made the day even more meaningful, and spending the day in London together was a lovely bonus.
This experience has been hugely beneficial. I’ve made valuable connections, grown in confidence, and developed important employability skills. Most exciting of all, I was offered a conditional apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce, starting in September 2026 which is a fantastic opportunity.
To anyone thinking of applying - Definitely go for it! Even if you don’t think you’ll get through, it’s always worth applying—you never know what might happen. If you’re invited to the Learning and Development Centre, be prepared. Take your CV or portfolio with you, just incase they ask (they didn’t ask for mine, but I was glad to have it). Make sure you’re well-prepared for your presentation too—know what you’re going to say and practice it beforehand. It might feel intimidating at first, but the atmosphere is much more relaxed once you’re there. So don’t be nervous—just be yourself, and give it your best
